Carnalpedia is a free, peer-editable adult graphic encyclopedia about sex. The name is a combination of carnal knowledge and encyclopedia. Created in March 2009 by Jeremy Haddock, Carnalpedia is the largest sex encyclopedia on the Internet with over 442 articles in English.

[edit] Initial content

The initial text and images used for the articles on Carnalpedia was supplied by affiliate websites and used with special permission. Additional content, and modifications to initial content has been generated by the users of Carnalpedia in agreement to the site's terms and conditions. Everyone 18 years of age and older can use and edit Carnalpedia.

Carnalpedia is opened in the Safari browser on a Macintosh computer. The top left of the homepage with the Carnalpedia logo is viewable on top of an article on dildos.

[edit] Carnalpedia compared to Wikipedia

Wikipedia is the world's largest encyclopedia, and both Carnalpedia and Wikipedia are created using MediaWiki software. The primary difference between the two is that Wikipedia is a general all-age reference, while Carnalpedia is geared towards an adult audience and focuses on sex. While some collisions exisit between the two encyclopedias, the majority of the content on one site may be considered inappropriate for the other, and vice-versa.

Carnalpedia uses many of the same default styles and settings of MediaWiki as employed by Wikipedia to help users familiar with Wikipedia to easily edit and add content to Carnalpedia.

Carnalpedia is compliant with RTA labels which allows software programs such as NetNanny to block inappropriate content from underage visitors. This ensures only an adult audience may access Carnalpedia.

Carnalpedia is compliant with copyright law and the section 18 U.S.C. § 2257. Images and videos can only be uploaded and approved by designated individuals when taken from approved sources. This is to ensure the legality of the content appearing on Carnalpedia and no exceptions are made.

Carnalpedia is accessible in seven different languages. The multi-lingual nature of Carnalpedia makes it accessible to audiences worldwide and allows users to promote their products and services across borders. Languages supported on Carnalpedia include English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
